IMS pupil tops the UK charts in hit band 'Bastille'!
Chris Wood, former IMS drum pupil has gone on to great acclaim with the hit UK band 'Bastille'. The group have become renowned world-wide for their album 'Bad Blood' which has topped the UK album charts. Their fourth single 'Pompeii' reached number two in the UK Charts.
Chris 'Woody' Wood was taught using the IMS teaching method at a Plymouth Secondary school, before moving on to play professionally. Chris's IMS teacher was Mr Colin Bacon, a renowned Drummer with the Royal Marines Band for many years. Colin taught Chris using our specialised teaching method using words and phrases to convey rhythmic patterns in a more memorable way.
Our congratulations go to both Chris and Colin. We hope that this success will lead to a boost in interest for music tuition not just in Plymouth, but across Devon and Cornwall. This particular story really goes to show that if you work hard in music, anything is possible!
Plymouth pupils are treated to a show by Louise Parker
On the 15th of April a Plymouth School was treated to a singing performance & workshop by the renowned jazz singer - Louise Parker. The whole school were pleased to join in as Louise taught them a Samba piece which the children sung in rounds, followed by a stunning rendition of the popular Rhianna song - 'Stay'.
The children sang beautifully for both songs, and the staff and visitors at the school were very impressed! Our thanks goes to Louise for taking the time to visit the school and for giving such a wonderful performance.
Comprehensive information about Louise, including her bio, album & performance information, can be found at her website: www.louiseparker.co.uk .... please take a look!
IMS Cornwall students benefit from funding
Our teaching in Cornwall has received a further boost this term following our membership with the Cornwall Music Education Hub. This is a significant move forward for us in Cornwall as being part of the Hub allows us not only to have a voice in matters that affect music provision on a county-wide level, but will mean that we are able to receive funding for certain pupils to take music lessons. We have had a number of pupils take up funding already and hope that it will continue to be available for some time to come.
